Frequently Asked Questions

Who said that?

The quotes found on this website are English translations from Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

What does "Quixotic" mean?

It means to generally be foolishly idealistic or noble in cause, oftentimes impractically or to the ignorance of the harsh realities of life.  The term comes from the book "Don Quixote," published in two parts (from 1605 and 1615) in Spain, and attributed as the first modern novel.

Why did you choose "Quixotic" as a kennel name?

Because all my life, I have been an idealist.  Many people may think I'm foolish, naive, a dreamer, or a perfectionist... but I've developed a thick skin, and I know a windmill when I see it - but it is in my very nature to try to ease discomfort and make something better I see that should be better, if it feels like the right and honorable thing to do.

I feel idealism is akin to unconditional love - to look past the flaws and impracticalities and still pour your heart and soul into it just because it deserves no less than to have all of you.  For dogs who give us unconditional love, do they deserve anything less in return?

We are the stewards of these special dogs, and I believe we should be doing more and better to do right by them to ensure they have a long and wonderful quality of life.  It is our duty as responsible stewards, breeders, and dog-champions to make sure they are in the absolute right home for them, help owners learn new strategies for training a challenging dog, or to help further education, awareness and efforts to eradicate a growing number of health, temperament, and genetic problems in overbred lines.

What use is all the research, training, practice and skill acquired if one is going to spend a lifetime simply *reading* about a noble calling to serve one's faithful and righteous friends, when one could put it all into practice?
